The last time...

and you didn't know it

This meme has haunted me since the day that I first saw it.

It occurs to me that there are many such things that we’ll never realize in the moment that it is the last time that we’ll do it, and I wonder how much richer moments would be if we did not take them for granted and understood that they may be the last of their type in our lives. There is no need to wonder – all the moments would be treasures.

Such changes can occur for a variety of reasons, but the impact is the same – that time was the last time, and we likely did not know it.

The last time you simply kicked up your heels and ran; the last time you barbequed with friends in the backyard; the last time you hugged your parent or other loved one; the last time you shot a game of pool; the last time you shot hoops; the last time you danced; the last time you baited a hook…the list is endless.

Perhaps we should spend more time treasuring the moment we are in instead of always looking forward to future ones.
